The launch ceremony for promotion of China travel card was held in Beijing on July 16th 2012 by National Tourism Administration and China UnionPay. The distinguished attendances of this ceremony were Shao Qiwei, director of National Tourism Administration; Liu Shiyu, vice-president of People's Bank of China; Zhu Shanzhong, deputy director of National Tourism Administration; Su Ning, chairman of the Board of China UnionPay and Xu Luode, CEO of China UnionPay, as well as the representatives from the card issuers, regional tourism departments who firstly applied for pilot project of barrier free in swiping travel cards, and related tourism enterprises.

After the launch ceremony, an initial issue ceremony of China Travel Card was jointly held by China UnionPay and the first batch issuing banks such as Industrial and Commercial Bank of China, Agricultural Bank of China, Bank of China, China Construction Bank and Shenzhen Development Bank. The sample card of China Travel Card was revealed at the ceremony.
