Water Splashing Festival marked in Yunnan, SW China
Performers dance at the Water Splashing Festival in Jinghong, Southwest China's Yunnan province, April 14, 2013. The festival is part of the New Year's celebrations that take place in Southeast Asian countries such as Burma, Cambodia, Laos, and Thailand, as well as Yunnan in China. It is observed as the most important festival by the Dai ethnic people in Yunnan and lasts for three to seven days. People splash or pour water over one another as part of the cleansing ritual to welcome the new year.
