With its unique architecture, Shanghai Urban Planning Exhibition Hall is located on the east side of the People's Square, adjacent to the People's Park in the north. It is a grand and elegant white building, brimming with heroic Shanghai style. Occupying an area of approximately 3,600 square meters, this 43.3 meter high exhibition hall is a 7 storey building, with two basement levels. From a distance, the building looks like the city gate with traditional Chinese stately towers, which a hint that the architecture has an internal relationship with the city. The roof of the building is comprised of four connected art sculptures that resemble four blooming white magnolias, the city flower of Shanghai, symbolizing the youthful spirit and vigor of the city.
Shanghai Urban Planning Exhibition Hall carefully depicts the changing process of Shanghai from a small fishing village to an international metropolis, fully displays the achievements of Shanghai in city planning and construction, and embodies the theme of city, man, environment, and development. The museum is well worth an hour of your time.
