Hunan Provincial Museum was established in 1950s in Kaifu District of Changshan City, the provincial capital of Hunan Province, and near to Martyr Memorial. Hunan Provincial Museum is the largest comprehensive museum of history and art as well as the national patriotic base for education. It is also one of the best tourist attractions in Hunan province. Museum has diversities of cultural and historic collections, particularly famous for its relics of Ma Wang Du Mausoleum of Han Dynasty, The Bronze Wares of Shang and Zhou Dynasties, The Cultural Relics of Chu Kingdom, Porcelains of Dynasties, Modern Cultural Relics as well as the Works of Calligraphy and Painting. Hunan Provincial Museum has a better indoor and outside environment. After several years¡¯ restorations, the halls and exhibition centers are well preserved strongly showing the tradition, elegance and simplicity of classical buildings, and today, Hunan Provincial Museum has become the symbol of Ancient City of Changsha.
Hunan province is one of the provinces that earlier built the museums in China. It was built in 1897, and in 1927 it was finally named Hunan Provincial Museum.
