How to Book China tour

We had a wonderful time in Tibet. We have learned a lot about this unique destination because of the wonderful guide Degyi who is so knowledge and always available towards our tours. We stayed at the Shangri-La Hotel Lhasa, and we would never imagine a Tibet travel could be so nice and amazing without the help of Degyi.

Also, thanks a lot to our Tibetan driver Mr.Wongdun for his safe driving and a good sense of service along the way.

We shall return Tibet in the near future!

Itinerary Day By Day:

Day01 Arrival Xining
Today you arrive in Xining, the capital city of Qinghai Province. This city is mainly inhabited with Tibetan but also a home of Uigur, Kazak and Hui minorities. Transferred to your hotel in Xining. Overnight at Sanwant Hotel

Day02  Xining (B, L, D)White-bellied Redstart,Birding in Qinghai
This morning we will head out to Mt.Beishan in Huzhu County for birds. Beishan is a beautiful forest at the borderlands of Qinghai and Gansu Province. Pheasants rank highly on everyone's list of difficult birds to see and there are several species here; Common Pheasant should not be too hard to find but Blood and Blue Eared Pheasant, as well as Chinese Grouse, will require a lot more effort. Other target species include Black Woodpecker, Chinese Thrush, Large-billed, Hume's,and Gansu Leaf-Warblers, Rufous-vented Tit and Gray-headed Bullfinch. Drive back Xining in the early evening. Overnight at Sanwant Hotel

Day03 Xining - Koko Nor (B, L, D)Birding in Qinghai,China
Drive via Riyue Shan (Sun and Moon Mountain), along the south rim of Koko Nor Lake to Heimahe, birding at Riyue Shan and Daotanghe etc. We'll be seeing the rolling alpine grasslands at their very best, and the fields will be alive with the blossoms of buttercups, gentians, and poppies. Set all this against the backdrop of dramatic snow-capped peaks and Koko Nor (or "Blue Sea Lake", a
s it's known in both Chinese and Mongolian). Overnight at a local lodge at the lakeside

Day04 Koko Nor - Chaka (B, L, D)Black-necked Crane,Birding Qinghai
Morning Birding at Heimahe and drive to Chaka for birds, en route we will watch birds at Mt.Xiangpishan. On the shores of Lake Koko Nor, post-breeding Bar-headed Geese and both Pallas's and Brown-headed Gulls will vie for our attention. We'll also search for the rare Black-necked Crane and possibly even the endangered Pallas's Fish Eagle. In the neighboring grasslands, among the domesticated yaks and horses and scattered Tibetan tents, we should find species such as Tibetan and Mongolian Larks. In the afternoon we'll drive over a pass to Chaka, a bizarre area rich in mineral salt deposits and yet with tracts of intensive and surprisingly lush agriculture. As we approach Chaka, we'll be looking particularly for Pallas's Sandgrouse and Mongolian Ground Jay. Overnight at a local lodge

Day05 Chaka (B, L, D)Birding in Qinghai,China
Morning birding at Chaka Salt Lake, day trip to Halihatu National Forest Park for birds, driven back Chaka later of the day. Overnight at a local lodge

Day06 Chaka - Bird Island (B, L, D)Birding in Qinghai,China
This morning we drive to the Bird Island at the West Shore of Koko Nor. Today we have ample time to search for more of the region's specialties. Plateau Pikas are common throughout the grasslands and constitute an important food source for Saker Falcons and the often numerous Upland Buzzards. We'll also expect to encounter numbers of migrant waterfowl and a few shorebirds. Overnight at local lodge by the lake

The pass is a regular site for White-winged Redstart and both Plain and Brandt's Mountain Finches. Moreover, the Ela Pass is one of only a handful of reliable sites for the little-known Tibetan Rosefinch. Overnight at a local lodge

Day10 Wenquan - Madoi (B, L, D)Tibetan Saker,Birding in Qinghai
This morning we travel south to Madoi to the source area of the Yellow River. Morning birding at Wenquan, where we may well find Tibetan Snowcock and Tibetan Sandgrouse. Madoi is home to many raptors and Upland Buzzards we can expect to see Himalayan Griffon Vulture, the impressive Lammergeier, Steppe Eagle and, most remarkable of all, numerous Sakers.
